Professional Activities
Vittorio holds a PhD from the University of London, the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, with a doctoral thesis on the antitrust treatment of patent pools and other forms of technological cooperation. Amongst his professional achievements, he has advised a UK government agency on possible antitrust liabilities related to database rights and copyright enforcement. Vittorio has repeatedly assisted in giving expert opinions on Italian law to the High Court of England and Wales. While much of his work relates to patents and antitrust cases, his trademark work has included a varied portfolio of clients, from luxury hotel chains, leading food industry players and Italian television broadcasters.

His professional experience at Trevisan & Cuonzo includes:

  • Advising and representing a U.S. multinational company in proceedings concerning package licenses and FRAND duties before the Italian Competition Authority
  • Advising on aspects of Italian law for an expert opinion to be provided to the UK Supreme Court in a renowned patent infringement case
  • Advising and representing a multinational Japanese electronics company in a case concerning infringement of standard related patents, FRAND obligations and potential antitrust liabilities
  • Advising and representing the world leading manufacturer of cardiovascular occluders in a renowned multijurisdictional patent dispute
  • Advising and representing one of the leading Italian TV broadcasters in a trademark infringement case
  • Advising and representing a multinational Japanese electronics company in proceedings concerning software platforms and DRMs before the Italian Competition Authority
  • Advising and representing world leading U.S. car component manufacturer in multi-jurisdictional patent litigation
  • Advising and representing the world leading manufacturer of truck axels in a number of patent infringement and unfair competition cases
  • Successfully defended Italian chemical manufacturer and supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients, world leader in the field of biliary derivates, before the Italian Antitrust Authority in proceedings for abuse of dominant position

Affiliations & Publications
Vittorio regularly attends and contributes to national and international conferences. He also regularly teaches patent and intellectual property law in a number of master programs. He has published a number of works on both intellectual property law and the interaction between IP rights and antitrust law. He is also regularly interviewed by the general press for IP and antitrust related issues. His main publications include:
