Who are we?

In 1993 partners, Luca Trevisan and Gabriel Cuonzo had a vision to create a top quality, dedicated specialist IP firm that would lead the Italian market and become prominent on the international stage.

Supported from the start by British solicitor, Julia Holden, who carried the practice into brands and luxury goods, together they set about building the team that would help them fulfil their ambitions for the firm.

There followed years of steady growth, strategic geographical development, and building strength in key areas, enabling them to reach their goals, and more. Today, with 11 dedicated IP partners and over 40 professionals in all, the firm is one of the largest and most successful IP specialist practices in Europe.

The initial focus was on litigation, developing what became known as a “litigation powerhouse”. Now the firm continues to evolve towards a role as an innovation powerhouse, still powerful in litigation, but with additional focus on corporate, transactional and technology transfer work.

Understanding its role in the international market, Trevisan & Cuonzo requires that all the professionals are fluent in English while many also speak German, Spanish and French.

Despite its growth, the firm retains a supportive collegiate structure. The partners are always available to support and coach their teams, and the firm holds fast to the principle that teamwork creates the best outcomes.

In a fast-changing legal market, it is a testament to the collective atmosphere created, that everyone who has ever been a partner in the firm is still here and still a partner. We are committed to adopting key technological developments in the provision of client services and all our staff receive regular training to ensure that they are up to date with important technology advances.

We take our client’s data seriously and in December 2023 we obtained the international ISO 27001:2022 certification for information security management systems. This certification is being maintained annually.

We provide detailed and accurate cost estimates and stand by our cost quotes. Our approach is transparent and flexible and we are always willing to consider alternative fee structures. We understand that cost-effectiveness is a large part of our service to our clients.

Trevisan & Cuonzo is an independent partnership of lawyers dedicated to excellence and client service. The only requirement to work in this firm is to be excellent as a lawyer and as a business advisor.

We are also proud to say that in 2025 we received the Silver Medal from EcoVadis, the authoritative international platform for assessing and monitoring corporate sustainability practices: a confirmation of our commitment to promoting a sustainable and responsible business model.

The firm is also committed to supporting the regional community in which it thrives through sponsorship, contributions and practical assistance. We support local non-profit organisations, sponsor musical and cultural events and institutions, and provide practical support to local training and development projects. We are also the main sponsors of J. Productions – a theatre company based in Milan that provides English language shows and performances locally and all around Italy.

Trevisan & Cuonzo has a collegiate management structure. It is organised so that roles and responsibilities are divided based on specific skills. To support the firm’s growth and development, new internal policies were recently approved by all the partners. These will strengthen the process of sharing key decision making and improving the firm’s operational processes. These policies apply to every member of the firm – professionals and administrative staff. Contracts with suppliers and service providers are also constantly reviewed and monitored, particularly with regard to information security and compliance with the firm’s required ethical standards.
