Mario Libertini, professor emeritus of commercial law at the La Sapienza University in Rome, is one of the leading names in Italy for EU and Italian competition law and complex commercial litigation. Furthermore, Prof. Libertini specialises in the fields of civil law, industrial law, public economy law, electronic communications law, as well as on concessions and sub concessions of public services and public contracts. Often appointed as member of arbitration boards, he has been involved, as an expert of Italian law, in proceedings before foreign courts.

His professional and academic experience includes:

  • Member of the board of professors in the PhD Faculty of Law of the La Sapienza University in Rome
  • Member of Italy’s advertising standards authority (since 2010) and vice president of the latter (since April 2017)
  • Responsible for the “Commercial Law” section of the Treccani Online Legal Encyclopedia (since 2013)
  • Member of the advisory committee on competition law of the Italian Association of Joint Stock Companies (since 2000)
  • Member of the editorial board of the journals Contratto e impresa, Concorrenza e mercato, Rivista Critica del diritto privato
  • Member of the board of appeal on trademark and patent matters at the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (IPTO) from 2011 to 2018
  • Member of the Working Group for the transposition of European directives and for the updating of the industrial property code at the IPTO (February 2016 – September 2018)
  • President of the supervisory board of the National Professionals Football League Serie A (February 2016 – April 2018)
  • Member of committee of Orizzonti – Italian society for the study of commercial law (2010-2016)
  • Member of the Technical patent commission of the La Sapienza University in Rome (1999-2008)
  • Member of the scientific research committee on the extra-ordinary management of large companies undergoing crisis at the Ministry of the economic development (2009)
  • Liquidaton Chief of Sicilcassa S.p.A. by appointment of the Italian Ministry of Finance, upon proposal by the Banking Supervisory Authority
  • Judicial commissioner of WindJet S.p.A. by appointment of the Court of Catania

Prof. Libertini regularly publishes his articles in Italian law journals on antitrust matters, public law, administrative law and commercial law and is the author of one of the reference treaties in Italy for competition law (Diritto della concorrenza dell’Unione europea, Giuffrè, Milan, 2014).
